Roots Rendezvous - Aug 30th- Sept 1. All Ages! Three Days of Wilderness, Survival, & Traditional Skills and Naturalist Classes, a huge variety of workshop blocks, ongoing demonstrations, and nighttime celebration.

I`m still chasing willow as a skill and in this have elements I love and aspects to be improved upon that keeps the learning game alive and thriving.

It does hold the perfect amount of nettle for a serving as a side, a batch of tea or the yearly cake.

I did forget any gloves and my fingers have been buzzing for a full day now. ...

Got a sweet scoop knife blade from Lucian Avery Blacksmith. Hafted it into some scavenged black walnut using the heating method which was fast, easy, and super effective.

Now to get better at spoon carving! ...

The Handmade Life class was treated to another weekend with Will Nissen and Brad Teeter. We finished the bowls we started last month and learned to carve utensils from greenwood using hand tools. It was an amazing weekend of hanging with great people and carving and everyone left with beautiful projects and lots of lessons learned. Kate Furbush made a particular beautiful bowl. Brad was kind enough to share his talent with Ash both in his kind instruction and the gift of a gorgeously carved spoon. Looking forward to hosting these fine gentlemen again someday soon!

It`s a rare thing when some one`s passion is matched by their ability to share as a teacher. Will Nissen (one half of @thebluecartcraft) brought both to the first day of the Handcrafted program as he guided folks in carving a wooden bowl. He shared his knowledge, good nature, tools and tool use and folks learned so much. The wood has been reduced close to their final form and will be finished in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it! ...
