Camping, Directions and Logistics

Learning the right skills at the right time can change your life. Have you ever wanted to live out your dreams of being a woodland ranger? Of practicing the arts of the ninja? Of slipping into the invisibility of the scout? Come join our experienced team of instructors as we explore and practice the underlying real life skills behind these dreams we all have.

Throughout this week we will use the skills of stealth, awareness, tracking, camouflage, hands-on projects, self defense, tactics and teamwork to engage in a week-long rich narrative. Expect action-packed days practicing skills, and scenarios that push deep into the night where we find ourselves covered in mud crawling silently through the woods avoiding detection.

This program is designed to empower teenagers through the use of real world skills. It creates opportunities to learn to work through problems and challenges individually, and as a team, in difficult circumstances. Through building an increased level of awareness, honing skills and developing self accountability, students will deepen their understanding of themselves, others and their environment. In strengthening both physical skills, as well as positive mindset and resilience, Teen Scout will challenge, push comfort zones, create growth and learning, and be a lot of fun!

We as a school love these skills and believe they can have a real, marked, positive impact on people’s lives. We also hold ourselves and our students to high standards when engaging in these classes to ensure we are all getting the most out of the experience. To that end, we require all our participants and parents to read and sign a student behavior agreement before their registration in the program will be considered final.

Safety First

When your child is with us, we understand their safety is our first responsibility and we take that seriously. One of the first things we do is teach hazards of the landscape that is our classroom, such as poison ivy, ticks, spiders, etc. We follow a safety protocol for all sharp or edged tools. The self defense content of the program will be covered realistically but with a focus on participant safety and requires that students commit to following standards and directions in order to train. There is at least one staff member present with wilderness medical training. Our staff carry radios and, when applicable, cell phones. We take pride in creating a safe environment for our students to experience the growth and self-discovery that comes from taking risks. In maintaining a healthy space, we ask that if your child is sick that they stay home. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions.
