This course is not about preparing for an eventual catastrophe that may never come, it is about living life on the top of your game, knowing your limits and how to push beyond them, and learning to blend with the natural landscape in a profound way.
This course dives into the skills of covert survival, stealth, natural camouflage, martial arts, traps, tracking and counter tracking, team organization and movement, and situational and sensory awareness. Must be willing to work long hours, day and night, through demanding situations in a team of diverse students and learn through edge experiences. Ben Goodrich of New England Ninjutsu will joining us to instruct in Taijustsu techniques daily. (The Ninjutsu sessions will be designed to respect necessary physical distancing until the pandemic is under control.)
In order to learn a skill it must be practiced. A great deal of this course is spent in a scenario we devise in order to pit students against threats in a learning environment. This time is where the real magic of this course occurs as students are cut loose with their team in order to employ the skills they have learned to complete their objectives. There is no way we know of to learn so much, so quickly, while pushing so hard, and yet somehow it is the most fun we have all year.
We have decided to waive the prerequisites for this course, however: This is in intense course and should not be someone’s first wilderness experience. The more students understand tracking, awareness, self-defense, survival skills, and how they relate to the landscape, the more they will be able to learn from the class. If you are new to Roots you must call us or email us so we can discuss the class and make sure it is a good fit for you. See our contact information below.
This course is designed for those who wish to learn how to keep themselves and those around them safer, please do not contact us about the course if you desire these skills for any other reason.
Questions about this course are welcome.
