Flint Knapping II - Projectile Points

After establishing the basics of pressure flaking, percussion, and performing, knappers can begin to pursue a new level of skill. By looking into the past to study specific projectile point styles and beginning to learn to replicate them, knappers can bring new challenges and levels of proficiency. In this course students will learn to recognize several different types of points as well as the some of the techniques that could have been used to make them such as oblique parallel flaking, fluting, overshot flaking and several notching options. We also look at eccentric flint knapping as well as their value in learning precision and detail. Finally we will cover two advanced sharpening techniques to leave you with razor sharp arrowheads, atl-atl dart heads, and spear points.
